In Spanish, the word tapa comes from “tapar” which means “to cover”. It’s an interesting story, the first tapa was a piece of ham that covered the top of a wine glass, placed there to keep the flies out of fine sherry. Once the bartenders realized that the salty-flavoured ham increased their drink sales, tapas were born.

Today, tapas are commonly known to be small morsels that are eaten while socializing. Tapas are deliciously flavoured small dishes, that can be eating as snacks, shared with friends, or combined with an assortment of other tapas to make a vibrant and rich meal. In a common Spanish setting you would enjoy many varieties of tapas, which would come to a few a time, while enjoying a rich and fruity drink or a glass of wine.
