The July MidSummer Mixed Matches occurred on the cusp of the recent heatwave, when the novelty of warm mornings in the Shores and balmy nights in San Mateo was fresh as a ... summer breeze. Tournament Director Karen Brodersen mastermined a crisp mixed doubles rotation of 8 women and 9 men that guaranteed a lot of play and plenty of time to get in from the increasingly blazing afternoon sun. Special thanks to Denise Pearson for making sure everyone was hydrated. The top two women's scorers were Barb Urrutia and Cynthia Hunton while Dennis Murphy and Michael Garb garnered honors on the men's side.

The evening social was held at the venerable Casa Muzio in San Mateo and featured a theme of olives, cheeses and summer berries. After an introductory olive oil and salt tasting, diners sampled many tasty cheeses, imbibed some colorful cocktails and then turned their attention to the multitude of delicious dinner options. Partygoers took full advantage of Jay Muzio's backyard construction projects throughout the warm night. Summer desserts and prize presentations rounded out the night.
